»Les vendanges de l’amour« is a song written by Michel Jourdan (lyrics) and Danyel Gérard (music), arranged by André Popp who also directed the orchestra you can hear. Its length is two minutes and 25 seconds. The Swiss-French singer Marie Laforêt, born Maïtena Marie Brigitte Doumenach, released it in 1963 on her »Tu Fait Semblant« EP on the French label Disques Festival (the master recording is now owned by Polydor, i.e. Universal Music, the publisher could be Universal as well.) It reached the top ten in France, Belgium and Spain – there in its Spanish-language version called »Y Volvamos Al Amor«.

Clement or Thomas had mentioned it to me in late March of this year, during our tasting of the 1989 Chinon. Some harvest helper had sung it last year. It’s a brilliant song and you can watch a live performance by Laforêt on TV here.

The lyrics I have had translated from the French original by Google Translate. I didn’t interfere with the result.

We’ll do them together
We’ll do them together
Tomorrow the harvest of love
Because life always brings together
Yes life always brings together,
Despite everything, those who part one day
And the sun of the beautiful age
Will shine after the storm
A beautiful morning to dry our tears
And your hand like a chain
Will come to merge with mine
Finally for the worst and the best

We’ll do them together
We’ll do them together
Tomorrow the harvest of love

‘Cause I know you look like
Yes I know you look like
Like two drops of water to love
My comparison maybe
On your lips will give birth
A smile as a speech
But still I’m sure
Tonight as much as I love you
Yes, tonight you look like love

We’ll do them together
We’ll do them together
Tomorrow the harvest of love
Because life always brings together
Yes, life always brings together,
Despite everything, those who part one day
And the sun of the beautiful age
Will shine after the storm

A beautiful morning to dry our tears
And your hand like a chain
Will come to merge with mine
Finally for the worst and the best
